Tips To Reduce Your Environmental Impact

It is very important that we all try and do our best to help the environment. This is particularly important due to the current state of the climate crisis. There are plenty of changes, both big and small, that you can make to do your bit. We’ve put together our top tips to reduce your environmental impact. Out videographer WIll has made his Social Snippet debut to talk to you about it in this video. Prefer to read about it? We also cover all of his tips in this blog post, so keep on reading.

Weigh in before you start to reduce your environmental impact

Before you do anything, you need to be aware of where you currently stand. What is your environmental impact looking like? What about that of your business or company you work for? We recommend using a carbon footprint calculator to do this before you embark on your journey to reduce your environmental impact. We recommend the WWF footprint calculator. No carbon footprint calculator will ever be 100% accurate, but it should give you a good rough idea of where you stand. You might be shocked at the results- a lot of our team were! Once you have an idea of where you are at, you can start making positive changes to do your bit for the environment and reduce your carbon footprint.

Re-use as much as possible

Did you know that we use 7 million disposable coffee cups a day in the UK alone? And we get through 35 million plastic bottles a day, which is even worse! Think of all that waste that is being produced the world over! But there’s an easy way to combat this which is getting a reusable coffee cup and water bottle. There are so many different designs available and ones to suit every budget so there’s no excuse. Furthermore, lots of coffee shops will give you a discount on your drink if you bring a reusable cup, so it’s a win-win situation.

Try Meatless Monday to reduce your environmental impact.

This is something that we try to do in the Delivered Social office, and it’s a really great way to reduce your environmental impact. The concept is super simple- just don’t eat any meat on Mondays (or whichever day or days of the week you choose!). The meat and dairy industry is responsible for 60% of the world’s agricultural greenhouse gas emissions, which is a huge number! So, cutting down on your meat consumption is one of the very best ways to reduce your carbon footprint. There are so many tasty vegetarian recipes and food options out there to try, so you won’t feel like you’re missing out on meat to help the planet.

Carbon offset your emissions

Finally, carbon offsetting your emissions is our last tip today to reduce your environmental impact. Everything we do contributes to our personal greenhouse gas emissions, from the food we eat, the products we buy, and where and how we travel. In fact, transport, especially using cars and planes, are one of the biggest contributors to personal footprints. But, there are plenty of organisations out there that can carbon offset your emissions for a small fee. They do this in a variety of ways, such as by planting trees or investing in green energy. Just do a little online research to discover the one that works best for you and your values.

We hope that these tips have helped to inspire you to reduce your environmental impact. At Delivered Social, we are always trying to think of new ways to reduce our impact further.
