Our work with Portsmouth Players

Portsmouth Players is a celebrated theatrical company with a history spanning nearly a century, dedicated to bringing high-quality productions, from beloved classics to bold contemporary musicals, to audiences in Portsmouth. Celebrating their 100th year, their challenge was ensuring their website served as an effective central hub for three critical objectives: selling tickets for upcoming shows (like MISCAST AGAIN), recruiting new members and volunteers, and securing crucial financial support through sponsorships and their ‘Friends of Players’ scheme. The platform needed to reflect their rich history while conveying the excitement and professionalism of their modern productions.

We started with a strategic discovery session, focusing on the company’s legacy, their diverse performance venues (Kings Theatre, Theatre Royal, The Barn), and their urgent need to convert digital interest into show attendance and financial support. We mapped the user journey to prioritise immediate access to “Upcoming Shows” and “Book Tickets Today.” The strategy centred on leveraging their deep history and high production quality to build trust and excitement.

We executed a vibrant, theatre-focused website design that is visually dominated by professional production photography. We ensured the Upcoming Shows section was the central focus, featuring prominent, clear calls-to-action for immediate ticket purchases. We dedicated a compelling section to their History and Past Shows gallery to reinforce their established quality and legacy. Crucially, we created a clear Support Us area detailing opportunities for advertising, sponsorship, and the Friends of Players scheme, transforming the site into an effective tool for both audience engagement and crucial funding.
