More on this.

Rather we just did it for you?

Let's get your business seen.

Social media, websites, SEO and ads from a team you can actually meet.

The TikTok Ads Library is a free, public database of ads that have run on TikTok in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland. You can search it by advertiser or keyword at library.tiktok.com, with no login, and see each ad alongside who paid for it, when it ran, roughly how many people saw it and who it was aimed at.

It is easy to confuse with TikTok’s Creative Center Top Ads, which is a different tool showing high performing ads with engagement data. This guide explains the difference, walks you through searching both, and shows how to turn what you find into better ads of your own.

Two tools with two different jobs

When people say “TikTok Ads Library” they usually mean one of two things. Both are free and both are useful, but they answer different questions.

TikTok Ad Library Creative Center Top Ads
What it is A transparency archive, officially called the Commercial Content Library A curated showcase of high performing ads for inspiration
Where library.tiktok.com Inside TikTok Creative Center
Login needed No Yes, for the full feed (a free TikTok for Business account)
Coverage Ads shown in the UK, EEA and Switzerland Many regions, filterable by country
Best for Seeing exactly what a named competitor is running Seeing what works in your industry
Performance data Reach ranges only Relative CTR, view rates, likes and more

The Ad Library exists because of transparency rules, chiefly the EU’s Digital Services Act. That is why it covers European and UK ads rather than the whole world. Political ads are not allowed on TikTok, so you will not find them here.

How to search the TikTok Ad Library step by step

  1. Go to library.tiktok.com/ads. No account is needed.
  2. Choose the right tab. “Ad library” shows paid ads. “Other commercial content” shows posts creators have marked as commercial, such as paid partnerships.
  3. Pick a country first. Choose United Kingdom, or a specific EEA country. The country setting shapes every other result, so start here.
  4. Set the date range. Start wide, covering the last year, then narrow it down once you find an advertiser you want to study.
  5. Search by advertiser name or keyword. Advertiser name is the most reliable. Keyword search looks at ad text and can return loosely related results, so try a few variations.
  6. Open an ad to see its details. Click any result to play the video and see its data.
  7. Note the ad ID and dates. If you are tracking a competitor over time, keep a simple spreadsheet so you can spot when they launch, pause or refresh creative.

What you can see for each ad

  • The ad video itself, playable in the browser
  • The advertiser name and, if different, who paid for the ad
  • The first and last date it was shown
  • A range for the number of unique users who saw it
  • A breakdown of reach by country
  • A summary of targeting, such as age bracket, gender, location and broad interest categories

What you cannot see

  • How much the advertiser spent
  • Click through rate, conversions or sales
  • Custom audiences, lookalikes or specific interest keywords
  • Which ads were tested against each other

There is no built in download or export, and reach figures are given as wide bands rather than exact numbers. Ads normally stay searchable for around a year after they were last shown. Treat the Ad Library as a window into what competitors are running and who they are targeting, not a scoreboard of what is working.

How to use Creative Center Top Ads

Top Ads is where you go for performance clues. It sits inside TikTok Creative Center, and while you can peek at a handful of ads without logging in, you need to sign in with a free TikTok for Business account to see the full dashboard.

  1. Log in to Creative Center and open the Inspiration menu, then choose Top Ads.
  2. Filter by region. Pick United Kingdom to see ads that ran here.
  3. Filter by industry. Choose the category closest to your business, for example beauty, food and drink, or home improvement.
  4. Filter by campaign objective. Traffic, conversions, app installs, lead generation and so on. Match this to what you want your own ads to achieve.
  5. Set the time frame. Recent ads reflect current trends, sounds and formats.
  6. Sort the results. You can sort by reach, click through rate, 2 second view rate, 6 second view rate, and on desktop also by conversion rate and likes.
  7. Open “See analytics”. This shows a second by second graph of relative performance across the video, so you can spot the exact moment viewers engaged or dropped off.
  8. Save the good ones. Favourite ads to your collection so you can share them with your team or designer.

The second by second analytics are the most valuable part. If a lot of ads in your industry show a spike at the moment a product is first shown, or a drop off when the logo appears, that tells you a lot about how to structure your own videos.

Turning competitor research into better ads

Looking at other people’s ads is only useful if it changes what you make. Here is how we approach it for clients.

Spot the long runners

In the Ad Library, an ad that has been running for months is probably working. Advertisers rarely keep paying for something that does not perform. Look at the first and last shown dates, and pay closest attention to ads that are still live after several weeks.

Study the first three seconds

On TikTok the opening decides everything. Write down how the strongest ads in your sector open: a question on screen, a person talking straight to camera, a surprising visual, a bold claim. You will quickly see patterns.

Look at who they are targeting

The targeting summary in the Ad Library shows the age brackets and genders a competitor is aiming at. If every rival is chasing the same group, there may be an underserved audience you can reach for less money.

Note the format, not just the message

  • Is it creator style footage filmed on a phone, or polished studio video?
  • Does it use a trending sound, voiceover or captions only?
  • How long is it?
  • What is the call to action, and when does it appear?

Borrow the structure, never the content

Use what you learn as a template for your own ideas. Copying someone’s script, footage or branding is a quick way to look unoriginal, and it can land you in trouble. Take the structure that works and fill it with your product, your people and your voice.

A simple monthly research routine

You do not need to spend hours on this. Half an hour a month is enough for most small businesses.

  1. Search your three main competitors in the Ad Library and note any new ads.
  2. Filter Top Ads by your industry and the UK, sorted by click through rate, and save five ads you like.
  3. Pick out one new hook, one format and one call to action to test in your next campaign.
  4. Run them against your current best ad and keep whatever wins.

If you would like help turning this into a proper testing plan, our TikTok ads management service builds this research into every campaign we run.

Frequently asked questions

Is the TikTok Ads Library free?

Yes. The Ad Library at library.tiktok.com is free and needs no account. Creative Center Top Ads is also free, but you need to log in with a TikTok for Business account to see everything.

Can I see how much a competitor spends on TikTok ads?

No. Neither tool shows spend. The Ad Library gives a range for how many people saw an ad, which is a rough clue to scale, but not a budget figure.

Why can I not find a brand’s US ads?

The Ad Library only covers ads shown in the UK, EEA and Switzerland. Ads that only ran in the US or other regions will not appear there, although Top Ads in Creative Center covers more countries.

Can I download ads from the library?

There is no download button in either tool. You can watch, save to your Creative Center collection and note ad IDs, which is all you need for research.

Make TikTok ads that people actually watch

Research shows you what is possible. Turning it into ads that stop the scroll and bring in customers is the hard part.
